I've been answering those little questions about "Which It Girl I Should Dress Like" in fashion publications since I was 12 years old. You people are aware of the ones I am referring to. The tests with six questions that seem random but nevertheless infer from your responses that you should dress like Alexa Chung by choosing green, ramen noodles, and water sports.

Although such tests are entertaining, what do they really teach you about yourself? They're indoctrinating you to revere the fashion sense of others. Don't get me wrong; as a street style photographer, I spend my days admiring and being inspired by other people's fashion choices. To be your own style icon, you must establish your own niche and dance to your own beat.

This is not a test; rather, it is a list of considerations for developing a distinctive look that will draw attention. Why dress like Gigi when you can dress like you, after all! Let's start now!

1. PAY ATTENTION TO ESTHETIC

An outfit is more than just a collection of coordinating clothes. A carefully chosen dress is a reflection of your personality. It is either loud and makes a statement, or it is thematic and rich in nuance. Consider what you want to say when creating your own appearance. Actually, take it a step further and consider the terminology I would employ on this same blog to characterise your distinctive style.

  1. Choose your preferred pieces.

It is time to get down to business now that you've decided on an aesthetic. What you create is what defines fashion. So, feel free to reverse, flip, and slam it down as much as you like. But don't forget to get a few key items that reflect your style as a whole. For instance, you'll need a denim jacket and a secondhand Henley if you're looking for the effortlessly stylish female style. Consider your favourite items as the cornerstone of your recognisable style.

  1. GET YOUR SIGNATURE ACCESSORIES

This is the step I'm focusing on the most because I'm a ring, earring, and bracelet loser by habit. Because accessories can increase the iconic value of a simple outfit by 200%. Consider the possibility that you would become known as the person with the wicked scarf collection if you wore a new scarf every day for the ensuing six months. If scarves aren't your thing, consider adding one additional piece to your outfit instead like a great pair of vibrant glasses or light-weight jewellery.

  1. SKIP EXCUSES AND BE BRAVE

Can I make this work? is definitely a question you've pondered when out with friends shopping. This inquiry is only appropriate when an item is just a little bit out of your comfort zone. In those situations, reasons for not even trying the item on are thrown around faster than you can set the hanger down. But here's the thing: You could have simply put your next major conversation starter back on the rack. Trust me, I am absolutely guilty of this as well. Be brave the next time you go shopping! Even if it is periwinkle yellow, bedazzled, and has frills, try it on. Even if you decide not to purchase it, you should at least try it out. You should take risks like fashion icons do.

5. You can never wear too much clothing.

"Where am I ever going to wear that?" is yet another time-tested and reliable classic buying query. Shoppers everywhere needn't worry, though, since I know the solution to this tricky geography-related query. But fasten your seatbelts, because it's a doozy. What will you wear that for? Anywhere you want, is the reply. You can never be too dressed up, at least in my opinion. If your new ballgown isn't "work acceptable," make plans to attend an occasion where you can wear it.

  1. CHANGE IT UP

Change it up once you've mastered the foundation look. Variety adds flavour to both life and style. Sticking with the same hues and silhouettes will guarantee that you fall into a style rut. Change your colour scheme at least once per season to avoid this. Additionally, nothing shakes things up like a fresh pair of shoes, which should be purchased as frequently as your budget will allow.

  1. ENJOY IT!

Be Your Own Style Icon

It's not necessary for fashion to be stuffy or frightening. Like I said earlier, your sense of style should represent who you are. Have fun with it, then! Break a few norms of fashion. Wear white all year long, formal skirts with crop tops, and big jewellery.

Don't be too hard on yourself and follow the grain as well as the opposing grain. It's not a huge problem if you don't look like the It Girl since you are extremely captivating regardless of how you look.
