Age No Bar: 105 Year old, Pappammal Awarded with Padma Shri

Rangama Pappammal is an organic farmer from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The 105 year old legend was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri in 2021 for bringing organic farming to light. The agriculturist was among the 11 people bestowed with the Padma Shri.

Renowned for clean agricultural practices, Pappammal worked with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s department of Education. An inspiration for all, she had keen interest in farming from childhood and actively works on 2.5 acres of land everyday at this age organically cultivating millets, pulses and vegetables.

Born in 1914,she lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her paternal grandparents in Thekkampatti. She worked very hard, earning and saving money which helped her buy a 10 acre plot of land, giving a kickstart to her beautiful and inspirational journey.
