Shivangi Singh made history as the first female fighter pilot to fly India's prestigious Rafale aircraft. Born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, in 1994, Singh always had a passion for flying and was inspired by her father, who served in the Indian Air Force.

After completing her schooling in Dehradun, Singh joined the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2016, where she was selected for fighter pilot training. She underwent intensive training for two years and was commissioned into the IAF as a flying officer in 2018.Singh initially flew the Hawk jet trainer and was then selected to train on the Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft. She was subsequently handpicked to train on the Rafale, which is India's newest and most advanced fighter aircraft.
Singh underwent extensive training in France for six months, where she learned the intricacies of flying the Rafale. She also trained with French Air Force pilots and gained valuable experience in handling aircraft in various situations.On 21 September 2020, Singh became the first Indian woman fighter pilot to fly the Rafale in India. She flew the aircraft for over an hour, during which she carried out a range of manoeuvres and tested the aircraft's capabilities.
