Gifts That Don’t Make Much Sense

Who doesn’t like to receive gifts, right? Gifts are something that excites everyone, be it a child or an adult! A right gift carries the sender's thoughts, emotions and respect for the recipient and is a way to show appreciation and celebrate bonds! But as every person is different, their way of receiving the gifts may also be different. Some may believe in superstition while the gifts may not make any sense to some. So, that brings us to this list of things you should never give to your loved ones! Take note of these things while you ponder over your next gift ideas!
Let’s begin with the list of gift ideas that don’t make much sense:
Handkerchief:
This is something I personally have heard a number of times. Giving someone a handkerchief especially if it’s used is not an optimal choice. The reason behind this is bad luck. While we use a handkerchief to wipe down our tears, presenting it to someone else is believed to invite tears.
A pair of scissors:
You must have heard about all the superstitions around sharp objects. One belief is that you should never give a pair of scissors or a sharp object to anyone. You must be wondering why that is, right? This is because in addition to bringing bad luck, giving a sharp object to someone can also damage the bond that you share with them.
Idols of gods:
Giving a god statue to someone as a housewarming gift is something that we all must have done at least once. While most people have a pooja place in their homes, everyone has their own ways of worshipping. Presenting an idol of a god may not be an ideal choice as they might not be able to take care of it properly.
Re-gifts:
Didn’t like a present you received? Don’t worry, we all have been there. Just the thought of not letting it go as a waste, you re-gift it to someone else, which is probably a bad idea. The sender puts in a lot of thoughts and emotions while choosing a gift, so re-gifting does not seem a wise choice!
Footwear:
If you know the exact size, gifting someone a good pair of footwear is the easiest option! At least, it is for me (lol)! But some people believe that giving someone footwear is not one of the ideal gift options as it is considered unlucky especially if gifted as a christmas present.
Pets:
Having pets is a super personal choice! While some people like to have a lot of furry babies around, some don’t have the time to take care of them. Giving someone a pet puts an unnecessary burden on them especially when they are not in a situation to take care of them.
Skincare and makeup products:
Everyone has different skin types and their own taste in makeup products. Until and unless you are super close to the person, giving makeup and skincare products as a gift is not a very wise decision. You might end up giving them the wrong foundation shade or a shade of lipstick which they won’t like! Same goes for skincare products, you won’t know how a specific product will react on their skin.
Mugs and photo frames:
Gifts like mugs and photo frames have gone way past in time now! The receiver might receive it as an unthoughtful gift option. To make these gift options a bit more meaningful and thoughtful, consider getting them personalised, add their pictures or a quote which holds a deep meaning in their lives!
Cash:
This one is important for someone who is looking for gift options for kids. We all remember how excited we used to get on our birthdays to receive presents as kids (some of us still do, lol). Cash is something that never excites kids as much as gifts do. Even if they don’t like it, they will keep it right next to them while they sleep!
Weighing scale:
Until and unless someone needs it, never give someone a weighing scale as a gift. No one needs to be constantly reminded of how much they weigh. It can put across a message which can make them feel insecure about themselves and their body.
