How a Trip Inspired Alice to Serve The Society….

When someone asks us what career we want to pursue, we may have very clear choices in mind, but it’s very rare when the thought of becoming a social entrepreneur occupies your mind. Meet Alice Sharma, a young lady who is doing her bit for the society through her NGO, Vastra aur Zindagiyaan. Alice is also an author to 7 books and has been facilitated with multiple awards including being affiliated with India Book of Records for being the youngest writer to write and publish 4 books in a day! That’s surely a talented lady we have here!

A single trip to Uttarakhand was what changed Alice’s whole perspective towards life; she had gone there for a pilgrimage trip when the unfortunate event of floods took place. At the tender age of 15 years, she was jolted to see the tragedy and people losing their lives. And that was the turning point when she firmly decided to get on with making people’s lives better and becoming a social entrepreneur.
She is the founder of the NGO, Vasrtra aur Zindagiyan based in Delhi and what started with the help of a group of friends is now extending to like minded volunteers from all over. Alice says, ‘When I started, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, because when it comes to a non-profit making entity, you have to put in a little extra courage and a lot of heart into it, because being a social entrepreneur isn’t about the annual turnovers but about bringing a change on the ground level. I was 20 years old when I started the NGO, I started off with a few friends and with time I realised, adding more youth to the organisation would be the game changer.’ Her organisation is firmly focussed on helping the underprivileged children of India aiming for their holistic development and getting them out of the bubble. In addition to it, working around the sensitive issues of sexual harrasment and domestic violence, they are also working towrads providing legal aid and creating awareness amongst the under-privileged women.

During multiple waves of pandemic they also reached out to feeding the underprivileged people and worked endlessly to provide them with nutritious meals. When we asked Alice what's next on cards, she said, ‘There’s a lot that we’ve planned to accomplish through the NGO. But I’ll stick to the credo of our organisation, that says – making lives less vulnerable and more bearable. That’s exactly what we’re trying to accomplish through our organisation everyday. In the coming days, we’re planning to launch a few more segments that would be centred mainly around the upliftment of women and LGBTQ COMMUNITY.’

Amazing work done by the lady and her team indeed, we feel super proud to see women helping other women! If you wish to volunteer for Alice’s NGO and be a part of the good work, you can reach out to them at their Instagram page @vastraaurzindagiyan.ngo or drop them an email on vastraaurzindagiyanfoundation@gmail.com.
