When it comes to boxing, the first name that comes to mind is undoubtedly MC Mary Kom. Since the last few years women have extensively started building their sports career in boxing which used to be considered as a male dominated sport otherwise. Nikhat Zareen has emerged as a force to be reckoned with as she is not only the gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in 50 kg category but she is also the defending champion at the world boxing championships!

Every Indian watched the semi finals of World Boxing Championships 2023 with a bated breath and when Nikhat out-punched the Rio Olympics Bronze medalist winner, Ingrit Valencia of Columbia, 5-0, the nation couldn’t help but celebrate Nikhat’s victory. She will now be contending for Gold Medal in the final match defending her world championship title on March 26 in the 50 Kg Category! Her brilliant technique and quick reflexes were on full display at the semi finals!

Another good news that came in was that not only Nikhat but Nitu Ghanghas too stormed her way into the finals in the 48 Kg category! Lovlina Borgohain and Saweety Boora too have advanced to the finals in 75 Kg and 81 Kg category of Women’s World Boxing Championship. We can’t keep calm and hope these amazing ladies bring home FOUR Gold Medals for India!

The first set of good news came on Saturday, 25th March 2023, when Nitu Ghangas defeated Lutsaikhan Altansetseg of Mongolia in the 48 Kg category and won the first gold medal for India in this edition of Women's World Boxing Championships! Next reason to cheer came in shortly as Saweety Boora too won the finals against Wang Lina of China in the 81 Kg category getting India its second gold medal at the current championships! We couldn't wait to see what happened next on Sunday when two more amazing women were going to fight for another two gold medals!

On Sunday evening, every Indian was glued to their TV sets and mobile screens as Nikhat Zareen's final match was about to begin! It was a nail biting match but history was scripted as Nikhat Zareen defeated Nyugen Thi Tam of Vietnam in the 50 Kg category, 5-0. and won her second consecutive World Boxing Championship! She is the second women boxer to achieve this rare feat after MC Mary Kom.
Lovlina Borgohain too won her final match against Caitlin Parker of Australia in 75 Kg category and got India its FOURTH Gold Medal in the tournament!
The amazing display of skill and determination by these four ladies is nothing short of inspirational! Their hard work was on full display at the championships! Congratulations Ladies and Thank You for bringing glory to India!
