“One Enough for Now”, Consequences of Conceiving After Having Disabled Child.
We live in such a society where it is harder, especially for women to take their own decision. When a female conceives a baby whole ninth months are like burden for the female as everyone has so much expectations be it in terms of gender, color, baby's weight, health, growth, and even before birth people start expecting about the future career of the newborn who is yet to be born.
After nine months of tolerating unbearable pain, nausea, hormonal imbalance, insomnia, trouble holding urine, shortness of breath, varicose veins, and stretch marks, and many more when mother hear from the doctor that baby didn’t cry and has hypoxic encephalopathy, then comes the great and extremely difficult battle be it managing fits, taking every therapy to achieve milestones, making a child from disabled to be able, and most importantly answering stupid and useless questions of the society like why your child is not walking, why he is not taking admission to school, my child of the same age is doing everything independently and yes not to forget they say “One Disabled is Enough, Don’t Conceive”.
I believe bearing a child is completely voluntary and each and everyone has the right to have a happy and blessed family. No doubt caring a disabled child is enormously difficult and can have both positive and negative consequences on the other child. In contrast to this literature provides evidence that parents of disabled child experiences episodes of depression, low productivity rate at the workplace, marital dissolutions, and unwanted stressful episodes leading to a high impact on the health of both the parents. Belonging to the medical profession, I believe parents of the disabled child must consider the resources required for planning a second baby, getting a consultation with a gynecologist can also provide effective counseling and can help in proceeding into final decision making through diagnostic and screening tests of both mothers and father. Apart from this, the parents of the disabled child must continue doing gym activities and rehabilitation by starting from mild intensity and duration to build up the endurance and also adding pelvic floor exercises such as Kegel exercises can help in improving sexual health and reproductive organs blood flow.
After getting acceptance from the gynecologist, Sexual Health Specialist, and Gynae Physical Therapist along with a gap of 2-3 years between two pregnancies is best and ideal as it gives you time to recover and replenish your body's resources.
And when everything works in your way, start preparations to welcome the newborn with a promise to show the love equally for both the children.
