Born in 1964, Pilavullakandi Thekkeraparambil Usha, also known as the queen of track and field, is an Indian sprinter and one of the greatest athletes. We Indians are proud as she is all set to become the First Woman President of the Indian Olympics Association. The 58-year-old athlete is the first international medalist and olympian to become the leader of IOA.

Ms P. T. Usha was born in Kuttali, Kerala and studied at Providence Women's College. Her career as an athlete began when a coach first noticed her and was impressed by how she walked. Soon her coaching began, and she started backing a lot of medals! Ms Usha stepped foot into inter-state and national games and started setting new records. The legendary athlete backed a gold medal and fourth place at the Asian games. This is one of her outstanding achievements!

 

 The athlete entered the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. However, she missed the bronze medal by a whisker. The unmatched legend took five golds and one bronze in the Jakarta Asian championships. The list of ms. Usha’s achievements are super long and impressive, which brings us to the next proud moment, the 10th Asian games held in Seoul. She gathered four gold medals and one silver leaving everyone proud! She retired in 2000 with numerous medals and merits.

Ms P. T. Usha is the first athlete to represent the country and the First Woman President of the IOA. She has also been elected as one of the eight sportspersons of outstanding merit (SOM). Ms P. T. Usha is also a candidate of the Bharatiya Janta Party. She was also honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 1985. 

 

Her legendary achievements have surely left every Indian teary-eyed, and we thank her for making our country super proud!
