Making Homemade Perfect Pizza Sauce is very difficult? No not at all! Here's a super fun recipe for you to get that amazing textured Pizza Sauce for a perfect homemade pizza!
Ingredients for sauce
- 4 medium tomatoes
- 18-20 garlic cloves
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 2 tablespoon oil
- Chili flakes
- Dry oregano (or Italian seasoning)
- Dry basil
- 2 tablespoon tomato ketchup
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder/paprika powder
- Salt to taste
- Water (as required)
Method for sauce
- Let’s begin with preparation. So, for the garlic, you don’t need to chop or paste them just peel the cloves and use them like it. For the onion, chop them finely or you can even go for sliced once. Besides, you can roughly chop tomatoes as you like them.
- Now, in a pan, add about 2-3 tablespoons of refined oil. Here I am using extra virgin olive oil but you can go for sunflower, soya, or any oil that has a mild flavor.
- As the oil starts to heat up, add garlic cloves in it along with the chopped onion.
- Cook for about 2 minutes or until the onion becomes translucent in color.
- Now, add about 1 teaspoon of dry basil, 1 teaspoon dry oregano, and 1 teaspoon chili flakes. Mix them well and cook for about 1 minute to release all the good flavor in the oil.
- After about a minute, add roughly chopped tomatoes to the pan and mix it. Coat each piece of tomato with oil to get the shine.
- Right away, add salt as required, here I am adding about 1 teaspoon of salt along with a pinch of red chili powder.
- Mix everything well and cover it up with a lid. Cook for about 5 minutes on a medium flame and mix in between to make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom.
- While mixing, if you think the mixture is turning too dry, add about a few tablespoons of water and cover the lid up.
- After about 5 minutes, take off the lid and if you want, you can take the skin out from the tomatoes. However, here we are leaving them on to get that desified version of our homemade pizza sauce.

- If you want to skip the de-peeling step, you can continue cooking them until tomatoes are very soft. Now, use your spatula and press tomatoes for a smooth texture. Cook for about 10 minutes more.
- Now, if you think the water is too much, you can take off the lid and cook the sauce on full flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Once you get a nice saucy texture, add your tomato ketchup and cook for about 1 more minute.
- Turn off the gas and cool down the sauce because we will grind it for a much smoother texture.
- If you want, you can grind the sauce into a fine paste but here I am grinding it coarsely because I like the chunks of garlic and onion in it.
There you go, your scrumptious homemade pizza sauce is ready to use. One more thing, you can also use this sauce for other dishes as well like red sauce or pink sauce pasta, sandwich spread, salad topping, or just a side sauce to have with snacks.
