The first ever Indian Production to win an Oscar! What a proud moment for all of us! Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s Netflix Documentary short, ‘The Elephant Whisperers,’ won oscar 2023 in the Best Documentary Short Film Category at the 95th Academy Awards. We are very proud to see women excelling in every field.

The elephant whisperers is a 41-minute documentary on Netflix directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Achin Jain and Guneet Monga that shows a family from Tamil Nadu’s Tiger Reserve who later adopted a baby orphan elephant. It shows the bond between the elephant, Raghu and the couple who adopted him.

Elephant whisperers show how caregiving has no boundaries and is one of the most selfless and giving tasks in the whole world. Bomman and Belli, the couple who adopted a three-month-old elephant, showed what caregiving is about and how to do it.

Gonsalves also shared the vision behind the movie. She said that she followed Raghu’s story for 5 years and had around 450 hours of clips. She further added that she also had a lot of clips of his bath, of him eating food and a lot of things which needed patience and some things which cannot be planned.
